SFS 6002 electrical safety certification

General electrical safety training (SFS 6002) is required for all electricians, supervisors, specialists, and personnel working in operational roles. This training is mandatory by law and must be renewed at least every five (5) years. Renewal is also required whenever there are significant changes in working methods or regulations.

Online training provides a flexible and fully valid alternative to traditional classroom-based training. Under occupational safety legislation, the employer may decide the form and method of training, making it possible to complete the course online regardless of time or location.

The course complies with the Finnish Electrical Safety Act 1135/2016, Section 83, as well as the requirements of Annex X.9 of the SFS 6002:2025 standard for general electrical safety training. The content is designed from the perspective of typical < 1 kV indoor installations and electrical maintenance and service work. The course consists of 9 self-paced modules, each including a practice test, as well as a final exam. The practice tests reinforce learning and prepare participants for the final exam.

The nominal duration of each module is 15–30 minutes. Modules can be paused and repeated as many times as needed. In addition, time is required to review the 42-page supporting material and complete the final exam. The course can be completed in flexible sessions within the allocated course period, which is 13 days. At its fastest, the course can be completed in 3–4 hours. The course and certificate are also available in English.

4. Responsibilities and roles in electrical safety
5. General principles of SFS 6002
6. Working de-energised
7. Working near live parts
8. Operational procedures
9. Maintenance practices
10. Final exam covering the course content

Successful completion of the electrical safety course and issuance of the certificate require full completion of each module and passing the final exam. Completion of modules is monitored. The course will be failed if modules are not completed in accordance with the instructions. A failed course can be retaken for an additional fee.
